Recently, BMW Group said in the company announcement that it would launch the next phase of joint research and development of all-solid-state batteries with the American start-up Solid Power, and adopt the pilot production line of solid power all-solid-state batteries in its own battery manufacturing center (CMCC), thus moving towards the long-term goal of mass production of all-solid-state batteries.
According to the expanded joint development agreement between the two companies, BMW Group obtained the technical license of Solid Power to replicate the pilot line of Solid Power at its battery manufacturing center (CMCC) in Parsdorf, near Munich. In June last year, Solid Power announced that it had completed the installation of a pilot production line for all-solid-state batteries. This pilot production line currently produces "50% silicon negative+solid electrolyte+ternary positive" battery cells, with a weekly output of about 300 and an annual output of about 15000.
BMW said that the expanded partnership would bring significant benefits to the two companies. Solid Power and BMW Group will carry out complementary battery development and manufacturing work to further promote the design and manufacturing technology of all-solid-state batteries.
